Food Adulterations

Neogen offers Reveal, Alert, and BioKits rapid tests for the detection of adulterants in food and drink, and animal feed, including methanol in beer and wine, soya protein in food, wheat in pasta, and ruminant byproducts in feed and meat and bone meal. Alert for Methanol is a 5 minute color change field test for the determination of methanol contamination in spirits, beer and wine that can detect methanol levels as low as 0.5% (v/v). BioKits Soya Protein Assay Kit is a quantitative ELISA (0.5% detection limit) that specifically detects soya protein in raw and cooked/canned foods, meats/meat products. Pasta Quality Control Kit is a sensitive and specific semi-quantitative test for the detection of common wheat adulteration in a range of pasta and noodle products. Reveal for Ruminant in Feed is an immunochromatographic lateral flow assay used for the qualitative analysis of ruminant byproducts in feed. The test can detect as little as 1% ruminant by-products in feed and feed supplements. Reveal for Ruminant in MBM is an immunochromatographic lateral flow assay used for the qualitative analysis of ruminant MBM in nonruminant animal meal. The test can detect as little as 2% ruminant MBM in nonruminant animal meal.

Food Allergens

Neogen offers simple Reveal and Reveal 3-D strip tests for food allergens that provide accurate and clear results in only minutes. Veratox (quantitative), BioKits and Alert (screening) tests for almond, egg, gliadin (gluten), hazelnut, lupine, milk, mustard, peanut, sesame, crustacea, soy, and walnut residues require minimal training, and provide results in as little as 30 minutes.

General Microbiology

Neogen's Soleris system rapidly detects microbial contamination by monitoring the color changes produced by changing pH, and other reactions, generated by microbial growth. The automated optical system needs only a fraction of the time of traditional methods, with significantly less hands-on time. The Soleris system offers a wide array of rapid tests, including: total viable count, coliforms, E. coli, yeast and molds, lactic acid bacteria, and enterobacteriaceae. Neogen's NEO-GRID disposable filter membrane systems, and proprietary culture media, rapidly and easily detect or enumerate bacteria. NEO-GRID's yeast and mold test yields accurate results in only 48 hours. The new disposable Neogen Filter Test System utilizes cellulose membrane filter technology, and ampouled liquid media, to detect and quantify target organisms. Neogen's Acumedia subsidiary offers a full line of premier dehydrated culture media, available in lots of small custom blends to high-volume production.

Sanitation

Neogen offers a range of products to detect the amount of food residue and other organic matter, such as bacteria, yeast and mold, that remain after cleaning. These tests can be incorporated into an organization's cleaning program to monitor its effectiveness.

Water & Liquid Microbial Testing

Neogen offers a choice of test systems to detect, or enumerate, microorganisms in liquid samples. Neogen's Colitag (Presence/Absence) Water Test Kit uses an EPA-approved selective and differential medium to detect total coliforms and E. coli in water and liquid samples in as little as 16 hours. Neogen Filter is a disposable membrane filtration system that uses ampouled media to detect and provide quantitative results for a wide variety of microorganisms in liquid samples.
